What happens at a consultation with me?

4th July 2023

From first time consultations to ongoing reviews, consultations are key to the success of any aesthetic treatment. During them, we will decide whether or not to go ahead with any treatment and the information discussed will determine the outcome. They are therefore the most important  part of your visit. Here’s what happens and why.

It’s always wonderful to meet new clients and as we are all aware, everybody is different. Questions and concerns that are in the mind of one client may not be on the mind of another, and what bothers you might not be the first thing that I see. And that’s where the consultation comes in.

Uncovering what it is that concerns you can only be achieved through an in-depth conversation. Then, we can pin point the issue and chat through the treatment options, which may range from doing nothing, to tweaking your skincare, through to discussing the balance between what my treatments can do for you, versus those of skincare machines, or cosmetic surgery.

The first stage of a consultation is examining your medical history. This may be completed online and returned to me, or be completed on paper at the surgery. Either way, we will go through that together to ensure that there are no contraindications to treatments, or any medications that you are taking that affect may treatment outcomes or the timings of some treatments .

The second stage in the consultation is to chat through the reason that you have decided to pop into my clinic. I’ll hand you a mirror, and we can have a look together.

For some of you, this stage of the consultation will be very specific. For example, it might be a frown line that you have suddenly noticed and cannot now unsee, but for others this may be just a vague feeling that something has changed and you are wondering if there are any tweaks or skincare products that can restore a line or area to how it once looked. It maybe that you want advice on how to restore a youthful glow to your skin that you feel you have lost. It maybe that you simply have some skincare questions to ask.

The third stage is the part I love as I get to share my knowledge with you It’s not possible to have a silly question in any consultation. Together we can look at the area of concern, discuss how much it bothers you, how long you have had it, and in some instances, whether it comes and goes.

I can then explain with you any options that I think will be beneficial for you, discuss how they are achieved, how long they will be expected to last and any preparations you may need to make (before the treatment and after ),the price range this may fall under. and the maintenance that may be required (or not). I will also chat through the consent from that you would be requested to sign before any treatment.

At this stage, I may also show you some before and after photographs of clients who have had treatments with me for the area we are discussing, and have given their consent. I always think this is incredibly valuable as it helps you understand what can be achieved and also helps you to see my work and decide whether I’m the practitioner for you.

On rare occasions I will take photographs of you if I believe that this can help visualise the end result. This is mainly when we are discussing a non-surgical rhinoplasty( nose filler), and I we can ensure the result we are aiming for is the same. I will mark up the treatment plan on your downloaded image, marking your photograph to highlight the change we are planning, and email this to you to view at home.

The final stage It’s important that you gain trust in your injector and can decide whether or not I am for you. Having a consultation allows you to walk away and think things through in a non hurried manner, and make decisions that don’t feel pressured in any way.
