The neck is covered by a thin muscle called the platysma, which fans from the chest up the neck to the jaw. As we age, unseemly lines and bands in the neck can appear, crêpey and sagging skin may become visible, and the lower face may be pulled downwards hiding a once crisply defined jawline. In addition, an ageing neck can cause a down turning of the edges of the mouth, giving a sad appearance even when at rest.
BOTOX® injections can successfully be used as a stand-alone treatment to reduce or eliminate horizontal necklines (necklace lines) and vertical platysma bands. The neck tightens and appears smoother, lines soften or disappear, helping rejuvenate the area to once again take a more youthful appearance.
By also injecting BOTOX® along the jawline and chin (muscles that pull facial features downwards), muscles on the upper face become stronger, giving a tightening and smoothing effect known as the Nefertiti Lift. The downwards pull on the edge of the mouth can be removed, and the jawline tightened, jowls reduced and the neck smoothed. Although the Nefertiti Lift cannot compete with the efficacy of a thread lift or surgery, it is much more affordable and can help combat early signs of ageing around the jowls and neck, defining the jawline before other procedures would be considered.
